Welcome to Slinger

About Slinger

The Village of Slinger is about thirty miles northwest of Milwaukee along U.S. Highway 41. Slinger had a population of 5,068 as of the 2010 census.

Slinger was originally founded under the name Schleisingerville, named after the founder of the same last name. During his life, Baruck Schleisinger Wiel became the largest purchaser of government property in Washington County. He also helped to turn the village into a thriving trade center, so much so that the old LaCrosse railroad was built to pass through Slinger. The village was renamed to Slinger in May of 1921.

Today, Slinger has become a thriving community with much to do in the area. One of the finest ski hills in the area, Little Switzerland, is located in Slinger on the north side of the village. Little Switzerland has 18 different runs to pick from, with a range of difficulties from the beginner hill to the difficult runs scattered around the hill. During the warmer months, the hill is converted into a bike park with trails that will challenge even the most experienced mountain biker. Slinger is also home to the world famous Slinger Speedway. This 1/4 mile, paved oval track has been regarded as the “World’s Fastest Quarter Mile Oval”. Slinger Speedway hosts the Slinger Nationals every summer where drivers compete in a 200 lap race for a chance to take home the Larry Detjens Memorial Cup. There’s a healthy mix of competition in this race, including local drivers and NASCAR drivers.

There’s also tons to do for those who enjoy being outside in nature. The Pike Lake State Park is a 522-acre forest that offers hiking trails and a campground for overnight stays. Pike Lake itself offers 461 acres of beautiful deep blue water with an abundant presence of Walleye, Panfish and Bass for fishermen to enjoy. Pike Lake is also a popular spot for water sports like boating, tubing, and water skiing. At the Slinger Community Park in town you can get a game going on the baseball field or take the kids out to the playground and let them run wild.

Slinger is a bustling city along the I-94 corridor that is only going to keep growing. If you’re thinking about moving around the Slinger area, check out some of the listings below and see if Slinger is right for you!
