The Village of Saukville is located in the heart of Ozaukee County between Port Washington and Newburg. The village has a population of 4,451 as of the 2010 census.
West of the city is the Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area, which is home to both Mud Lake and Long Lake. These lakes have maximum depths of 4 and 5 feet respectively, making them great places to safely kayak and enjoy the beauty of nature, or even practice kayak maneuvers before heading out to some of the deeper waters in the state. The bog itself has a walking path that visitors can take to check out some of the wildlife and plants in the area. The bog is home to many different species of frog, snakes, turtles, salamanders, birds, and mammals. More information about the bog can be found on the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog’s website. Near the bog you’ll also find the conveniently named “The Bog” golf course. The course was designed by both Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay and provides 7,110 yards of fun but challenging golf. The Bog has been regarded as one of the top 10 courses in the state.
Food critics will find much to rave about in the area with tons of choices available. If simplicity is what you’re after, check out River’s Edge. River’s Edge offers a breakfast menu that is simple, yet delicious, and a great value too! The restaurant is open from 4:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. every day except Sundays. Want to grab some lunch after shooting a round of 18 at The Bog? Swing on into Between the Greens for a burger, fries, and a beer. The menu covers a wide range of tastes and offers fish, burgers, and sandwiches. With competitive prices, it’s a must stop.
Saukville’s small town charm gives it the competitive edge when compared to the big cities. The attractions are enough to draw you in, while the food and the residents will convince you to stay.
